PITTSBURGH, Feb. 21 (UPI) -- Michal Neuvirth logged a 39-shot shutout and Alex Ovechkin scored the only goal Monday, leading the Washington Capitals to a 1-0 win over Pittsburgh.
Neuvirth collected his third shutout off the year and his career, raising his record to 18-9-4 as the Capitals improved to 3-2-0 on their current seven-game road trip.
Ovechkin one-timed a blast off a pass from Marcus Johansson into the Pittsburgh net during a power play with less than 4 minutes remaining in the second period in the game's only score.
Washington won in Pittsburgh for 10th time in 12 meetings, including a victory in the Jan. 1 Winter Classic outdoor game at Heinz Field.
Marc-Andre Fleury turned aside 23-of-24 shots to absorb the hard-luck loss as the struggling Penguins fell to 2-6-0 in their last eight games.
Second-place Pittsburgh remained five points behind Philadelphia in the Atlantic Division.
