NBA: Chicago 109, San Antonio 99

CHICAGO, Feb. 17 (UPI) -- Derrick Rose made 18-of-28 shots and scored a career-best 42 points Thursday in sending the Chicago Bulls to a 109-99 victory over San Antonio.

Rose has taken more than 28 shots in a game just twice this season, and his big effort allowed the Bulls to head into the All-Star break on a four-game winning streak. They have won 15 of their last 16 home games.

San Antonio lost for just the 10th time this season and the Spurs will go into the break with a five-game lead over both Boston and Miami for the best record in the NBA.

Chicago narrowly outscored the Spurs in all four quarters and received 19 points from Luol Deng. Chicago shot 53 percent from the field.

Tony Parker led San Antonio with 26 points. Both Manu Ginobili and Gary Neal had 16.
