Points rides eagle to Pebble Beach win

PEBBLE BEACH, Calif., Feb. 13 (UPI) -- D.A. Points used an eagle on No. 14 to gain control of the tournament Sunday and engineer a comeback victory at the Pebble Beach National Pro-Am.

Points holed out from about 100 yards away on the 14th and followed that up with a dramatic birdie on No. 15, sinking a sharp-breaking 29-foot putt to move ahead for good after coming into the day trailing by two strokes.

He shot a 5-under-par 67 to finish at 15-under 271 for his first PGA Tour win.

Hunter Mahan ended in second place after making a late charge, carding a 6-under 66 to end at 13-under 273.

Tom Gillis (70) was third at 11-under 275 and third-round leader Steve Marino managed only a 2-over 74 Sunday, falling into a share of fourth place with Spencer Levin (70).

Points's amateur partner, actor-comedian Bill Murray, won the pro-am with a 35-under 251 -- Murray's first Pebble Beach victory after playing every year since the early 1990s.
