OAKLAND, Calif., Feb. 10 (UPI) -- Monta Ellis ended his 37-point show Wednesday with a late long-range shot that helped lift Golden State to a 116-114 win over Denver.
The 3-pointer by Ellis with 48 seconds remaining gave the Warriors a four-point lead and allowed them to withstand a jumper by Denver's J.R. Smith with 32 seconds to go. After Ellis missed another 3-point try with 10 seconds left, Nene failed to connect on a jumper for Denver and Stephen Curry's rebound wrapped up the Golden State win.
The Warriors defeated the Nuggets for the first time in eight tries.
Ellis made 16-of-30 shots from the field and was backed up by 23 points from Dorrel Wright. Golden State made 14-of-28 3-point attempts and shot 51 percent from the field.
Carmelo Anthony, playing on despite constant trade rumors, led Denver with 29 points.
