Marcus Relphorde hit a 3-pointer for Colorado to bring the Buffaloes within two points with 9 seconds remaining in the extra period.

Holmes was then fouled, but he could make just 1-of-2 from the line. That gave Levi Knutson a chance to tie it for Colorado, but his 3-point attempt failed to go with 2 seconds left.

Nathan Walkup led the Aggies (18-5, 5-4 Big 12 Conference) with 18 points. David Loubeau added 14 points and nine rebounds while Holmes contributed 13 points.

Colorado lost for the sixth time in seven games. The Buffaloes (15-10, 4-6) were led by 24 points from Alex Burks.
