SCOTTSDALE, Ariz., Feb. 6 (UPI) -- Mark Wilson heads into the final holes of the weather-prolonged Phoenix Open with a two-stroke lead, forced by darkness to end play Sunday at 18 under par.
Wilson, who fired a 3-under 68 in the tourney's third round, completed 12 holes of the fourth and final round Sunday before daylight faded. He called it a night after hitting a wedge shot to within 21 feet of the pin on No. 13 at TPC Scottsdale.
Play was suspended with Wilson shooting a 2-under 44 through 12 holes (18-under 241), two shots better than second-round leader Tommy Gainey (1-over 47 through 12 holes), Vijay Singh (5-under 62 through 17) and Jason Dufner (3-under 52 through 14), all of whom stood at minus-16.
Four players were tied for fifth one shot further back at minus-15, including two who had completed 72 holes: Nick Watney (68) and J.B. Holmes (67).
Martin Laird, meanwhile, had compiled a 5-under 58 through 16 holes and Chris Couch was at 1-under 50 through 13.
Long frost delays at the start of both Thursday's and Friday's action threw the tournament off schedule.
Play on the final round is to resume at 9 a.m. Monday.
