Forsberg comes out of retirement with Avs

DENVER, Feb. 6 (UPI) -- Former Colorado Avalanche superstar forward Peter Forsberg said Sunday he's coming out of retirement and returning to the team.

Forsberg signed a contract with the Avs and accompanied them to Phoenix where they will play the Coyotes Monday, The Denver Post reported.

The details of the contract weren't announced.

Forsberg, 37, who last played in the NHL in 2008, is not expected to play in the Phoenix game. His last action came in Game 3 of a second-round playoff series against Detroit that season two seasons ago.

"I don't know how good I'm going to be. I don't know how it's going to go, I'm going to say that right now," Forsberg told the newspaper. "But I like to play and I want to play. I've been feeling pretty good, and I want to see if I'm good enough."

During his 13-year NHL career, Forsberg won two Stanley Cup championships with the Avalanche, racking up 249 goals and 636 assists in 706 games.
