Gainey still in first at Phoenix Open

GLENDALE, Ariz., Feb. 5 (UPI) -- Tommy Gainey retained his hold on first place Saturday after play at the weather-delayed Phoenix Open was suspended for the day.

Gainey, who led after the first round, fired a 6-under 65 to complete the second round. The third round was begun late Saturday, but Gainey and the others atop the leaderboard were set to begin their third rounds Sunday.

Gainey finished up the final nine holes of his second round after play was called due to darkness Friday. He remained in first at 14-under 128 at TPC Scottsdale.

Mark Wilson, who was tied with Gainey when play was stopped Friday, completed 36 holes at minus-13 after, registering a 7-under 64 in the second round.

Bill Haas (65) made a move into third place at 12-under 130, while sole possession of fourth place fell to Chris Couch (65) at 11-under.

Rickie Fowler managed the best round of his career at 9-under 62 -- good enough to forge a tie with Phil Mickelson (65) for fifth place at 10-under.
