NHL: Toronto 3, Carolina 0

TORONTO, Feb. 3 (UPI) -- James Reimer recorded his first NHL shutout in his ninth career game Thursday, leading the Toronto Maple Leafs to a 3-0 victory over Carolina.

Reimer made 27 saves and improved what had been a 2.24 goals-against average coming into the contest.

Toronto won its second straight, the first time the Maple Leafs have captured back-to-back outings in almost a month.

Clarke MacArthur and Darryl Boyce produced second-period goals and Kris Versteeg scored in the third. Toronto defeated the Hurricanes for the first time in six meetings.

Cam Ward made 38 saves for Carolina, which has dropped two straight.
