COL BKB: St. John's 93, Duke 78

NEW YORK, Jan. 30 (UPI) -- Dwight Hardy and Justin Brownlee combined for 46 points Sunday and St. John's upended third-ranked Duke 93-78 at Madison Square Garden in New York.

Hardy went 9-of-13 from the field and Brownlee hauled down eight rebounds for St. John's (12-8), which won for only the third time in eight games and broke a seven-game losing streak to the Blue Devils.

Paris Horne added 15 points and grabbed seven rebounds while D.J. Kennedy and Sean Evans chipped in with 10 points apiece for the Red Storm.

St. John's took control of the game with a 21-7 first-half run, capped by Horne's 3-pointer with 5:52 remaining to put the Red Storm up 31-17.

Nolan Smith pumped in 32 points and Kyle Singler added 20 for Duke (19-2), which saw its four-game winning streak snapped.
