COL BKB: Indiana 52, Illinois 49

BLOOMINGTON, Ind., Jan. 27 (UPI) -- Jordan Hulls hit two free throws with 13 seconds left Thursday and Indiana held on to defeat No. 21 Illinois 52-49.

Neither team led by more than five points at any stage of the grueling defensive struggle, which saw Indiana shoot just 37 percent from the field and the Fighting Illini manage only 32 percent.

Hulls scored 18 points to lead Illinois. His two foul shots provided the final points of the game.

D.J. Richardson and Brandon Paul missed 3-point attempts for Illinois in the last 4 seconds.

Illinois (14-7, 4-4 Big Ten) was playing for the first time since throwing a scare into No. 1 Ohio State Saturday. The Buckeyes held on to win that game by five points and stay unbeaten for the season.

Christian Watford added 16 points for Indiana (11-10, 2-6), which had lost its previous four conference games. Mike Davis was the only player in double figures for Illinois with 14 points.

The teams combined to make 37-of-107 shots from the field and were 10-of-35 from 3-point range.
