NEW ORLEANS, Jan. 26 (UPI) -- An autopsy on a body believed to be that of Brian Reed, brother of Ed Reed of the Baltimore Ravens, was postponed, officials said Wednesday.

The autopsy, originally expected Wednesday, was delayed at least 24 hours, The Baltimore Sun reported. The body was discovered Tuesday in the Mississippi River in Kenner, La., almost three weeks after Brian Reed jumped into the river when a deputy sheriff accosted him.

Police Lt. Wayne McInnis said Jefferson Parish allows families to provide an independent doctor for autopsies in cases where police were involved in a death.

While the identity of the body has not been confirmed, Ed Reed said the family is sure it is Brian, WDSU-TV, New Orleans, reported. The family released a statement thanking the agencies involved in the search.

"It's been tough, but God is good. To have found our brother today brings closure and knowing that he's in a better place," Ed Reed said.

Reed grew up in Destrehan, La., and went to the University of Miami. He was drafted by the Ravens in 2002.
