NHL: Detroit 4, St. Louis 3 (OT)

ST. LOUIS, Jan. 20 (UPI) -- Darren Helm rescued Detroit by scoring 1:51 into overtime Thursday and bringing the Red Wings a 4-3 victory over St. Louis.

Detroit let a 3-0 lead slip away but Helm came through with his fifth goal of the season on a one-timer from the slot and the Red Wings salvaged their second win in three games.

After Patrick Eaves produced the only first-period goal, Todd Bertuzzi and Jakub Kindl scored for the Red Wings in the opening half of the second period. Kindl's goal was the first of his career, coming in his 22nd NHL game.

T.J. Oshie began the St. Louis comeback with 8:16 to go in the second period and the Blues tied it in the third on goals from Patrik Berglund and David Backes.

Jimmy Howard did not face a shot in overtime and got the win with 26 saves. The Detroit goaltender had missed two games with a bruised knee.

Jaroslav Halak had 25 saves in the loss.
