Maruyama, Appleby share Sony Open lead

HONOLULU, Jan. 16 (UPI) -- Shigeki Maruyama and Stuart Appleby finished knotted for first place at 10-under-par 130 after Saturday's second round of the Sony Open in Hawaii.

Appleby, the first-round leader, got hot down the stretch, birdying the last three holes for a 4-under 66 to pull into a tie with Maruyama, who posted his second consecutive 5-under 65 at Waialae Country Club.

Sharing a three-way tie for third place were Roland Thatcher (65), Steve Marino (67) and Mark Wilson (67) at 8-under 132.

The event was put behind schedule after heavy rain washed out Thursday's first round.

PGA officials said they hope to play 36 holes Sunday to complete both the third and fourth rounds.
