NHL: Pittsburgh 3, Boston 2

BOSTON, Jan. 15 (UPI) -- Jordan Staal notched the go-ahead goal in the third period Saturday and the Pittsburgh Penguins hung on for a 3-2 victory over Boston.

Staal put a backhander past Tuukka Rask off a sharp pass from behind the net by Matt Cooke to break a 2-2 tie less than 4 minutes into the final frame.

Marc-Andre Fluery, meanwhile, stood up to a furious Boston assault in the closing minutes to preserve the win for Pittsburgh, making 20 of his 44 saves in the third period.

Chris Kunitz and Pascal Dupuis added goals for the Penguins, who won their second straight after three consecutive losses.

Dennis Seidenberg and Michael Ryder scored 13 seconds apart in the second period and Rask made 33 saves for the Bruins, who saw their three-game winning streak snapped.
