COL BKB: Kansas 84, Iowa State 79

AMES, Iowa, Jan. 12 (UPI) -- Marcus and Markieff Morris teamed to score 50 points and grab 24 rebounds Wednesday, lifting No. 3 Kansas to an 84-79 victory over Iowa State.

The twin brothers combined to make 17-of-27 shots from the field, helping the Jayhawks fight off an upset bid and remain unbeaten for the season.

The victory was not assured until Markieff Morris made two free throws with 3 seconds to play.

Marcus Morris had 33 points and 13 rebounds. Markieff Morris collected 11 rebounds to go with his 17 points.

Kansas improved to 16-0 in its Big 12 Conference opener. The Jayhawks have begun their conference season with a win in each of the last 20 years.

Iowa State (13-4, 0-2) was led by 27 points from Diante Garrett. The Cyclones have lost two straight after winning seven in a row.
