Red Wings' Osgood out 6-to-8 weeks

DETROIT, Jan. 10 (UPI) -- Detroit Red Wings goaltender Chris Osgood will be out for 6-to-8 weeks with a groin injury, General Manager Ken Holland said Monday.

"If the doctor sees a significant tear, it'll be closer to eight weeks," Holland told The Detroit Free Press. "If not, it'll be closer to six. We won't know until the doctor goes in there and sees how bad it is."

The club recalled Joey MacDonald from Grand Rapids of the American Hockey League to back up starting goalie Jimmy Howard.

Osgood, 30, had been bothered by the injury earlier in the season. He has compiled a 5-3-2 record with a 2.77 goals-against average and .903 save percentage in 10 starts this season, notching his 400th career win Dec. 27 against Colorado.
