Bosox sign reliever Okajima to 1-year deal

BOSTON, Jan. 10 (UPI) -- The Boston Red Sox said Monday they have signed relief pitcher Hideki Okajima to a one-year contract.

Okajima has compiled a 16-8 record with a 3.06 ERA over 254 games in four major league seasons, all with the Red Sox.

Last year he went 4-4 with a 4.50 earned run average in 56 appearances, allowing 23 earned runs over 46 innings.

The 35-year-old was named an American League all-star in his first season with the Bosox in 2007, helping them to the World Series title that year.
