Rangers' Frolov to miss rest of season

NEW YORK, Jan. 9 (UPI) -- New York Rangers forward Alexander Frolov will likely miss the rest of the season after having knee surgery, the team said Sunday.

Frolov tore his right anterior cruciate ligament, sprained his medial collateral ligament and tore a medial meniscus during Saturday's 2-1 win at St. Louis.

The 28-year-old left winger had a magnetic resonance imaging exam Sunday that confirmed the severity of the injuries.

Frolov, signed by the Rangers as free agent after spending seven years with the Los Angeles Kings, had notched seven goals and nine assists in 43 games this season.
