NHL: Carolina 4, Atlanta 3 (OT)

RALEIGH, N.C., Jan. 9 (UPI) -- Eric Cole's goal 2:09 into overtime Sunday enabled the Carolina Hurricanes to overcome a blown lead and post a 4-3 win over Atlanta.

Cole's first shot on a breakaway was stopped by Ondrej Pavelec but Ian White then stole the puck from Dustin Byfuglien and fed it back to Cole, whose wrist shot this time eluded Pavelec for the game-winner.

The Hurricanes held a 3-1 lead early in the second period but lost it is as Atlanta's Niclas Bergfors tallied on a power play in the middle frame and Brian Little forged a tie with a marker midway through the third period.

Jeff Skinner, Tuomo Ruutu and Zac Dalpe all scored and Justin Peters stopped 25-of-28 shots for Carolina, which won for the fifth time in seven outings.

Little scored twice and Pavelec let in four goals on 34 shots for the Thrashers.
