Petkovic-Kvitova final set for Brisbane

BRISBANE, Australia, Jan. 7 (UPI) -- Andrea Petkovic and Petra Kvitova posted upset wins Friday and advanced to the finals of the Brisbane International tennis tournament in Australia.

Petkovic ousted fourth-seeded Marion Bartoli 6-4, 6-2 and Kvitova took out No. 5-seeded Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova 6-4, 4-6, 6-2 in Friday's semifinals. When they meet in the tournament finals, they will be playing for a first-place check of $37,000. Kvitova and Petkovic have each won twice in their four meetings.

Petkovic amassed six breaks in nine games served by Bartoli. Petkovic won 56 percent of the points off Bartoli's serve, which allowed her to advance despite three service breaks of her own.

Kvitova's win over Pavlyuchenkova turned on her strong showing in the third set. She lost only four points on serve in the set and broke Pavlyuchenkova's serve twice. Kvitova won 67 percent of the points overall in the third set, taking 16 of 20 points on serve.
