MINNEAPOLIS, Jan. 7 (UPI) -- Wesley Matthews had seven 3-pointers and scored a career-best 36 Friday in powering the Portland Trail Blazers to a 108-98 victory over Minnesota.
The Trail Blazers led by as many as 21 points late in the first half and coasted from there to defeat the Timberwolves for the 14th straight time.
LaMarcus Aldridge added 28 points and 10 rebounds. Andre Miller pitched in with 16 points and 10 assists.
Minnesota has lost four of its last five. Its nine victories are second-fewest in the Western Conference.
Kevin Love scored 30 points with 19 rebounds to lead Minnesota.
Matthews took six shots in the first period, five of them coming from beyond the arc, and he made all of them. His seven 3-pointers in the opening two periods set a team record for most in a half.
Cliff Robinson made six in one half 14 years ago.
