Bartoli moves to Brisbane quarterfinals

BRISBANE, Australia, Jan. 5 (UPI) -- Fourth-seeded Marian Bartoli needed three sets Wednesday and advanced to the quarterfinals of the Brisbane International tennis tournament in Australia.

Bartoli, the No. 4 seed at Brisbane, defeated Iveta Benesova 6-1, 3-6, 6-0. She didn't face a break point in the first or third sets and, despite losing the second set, won 60 percent of the points in the match.

Andrea Petkovic swept past Jelena Dokic 6-0, 6-1 in 46 minutes in her second-round match. The only game Dokic won was a service break, but Petkovic broke Dokic's serve six times in six games.

Barbora Zahlavova Strycova took out Sally Peers 6-4, 6-1; Dominika Cibulkova topped Roberta Vinci 6-2, 7-5; and Petra Kvitova beat Ksenia Pervak 1-6, 6-4, 6-2 in Wednesday's other matches.
