NHL: Florida 3, New York Rangers 0

SUNRISE, Fla., Jan. 2 (UPI) -- Tomas Vokoun turned aside 32 shots Sunday, backstopping the Florida Panthers to a 3-0 whitewash of the New York Rangers.

Vokoun blanked the Rangers on two power-play opportunities and was especially sharp in the second period when he stopped 14 shots, notching his fifth shutout of the season and 43rd of his career.

Florida got goals from Chris Higgins, David Booth and Stephen Weiss in winning for only the second time in five games.

The Rangers, meanwhile, dropped their fourth game in six contests.

Martin Biron made 33 saves in New York's latest setback.
