COL BKB: Duke 74, Miami (Fla.) 63

DURHAM, N.C., Jan. 2 (UPI) -- Nolan Smith popped in 28 points and top-ranked Duke downed Miami of Florida 74-63 Sunday in the Atlantic Coast Conference openers for both schools.

Smith distributed five assists and Andre Dawkins added 16 points for the Blue Devils (13-0, 1-0 ACC).

Kyle Singler added 14 points as Duke won its 23rd straight game going back to last season.

Reggie Johnson scored 22 points and grabbed eight rebounds for the Hurricanes (11-4, 0-1).
