COL BKB: Syracuse 70, Notre Dame 58

SYRACUSE, N.Y., Jan. 1 (UPI) -- Kris Joseph scored 18 points and helped ignite a big second-half outburst Saturday that led No. 5 Syracuse to a 70-58 win over No. 15 Notre Dame.

Tyrone Nash's layup 6 minutes into the second half gave the Fighting Irish their last tie at 44-44. That's when the Orange went on a 19-3 run, bookended by Joseph baskets and highlighted by a Scoop Jardine 3-pointer to make it 58-47.

Jardine finished with 15 points and nine assists and Rick Jackson and James Southerland each added 12 points in the win, which gave Syracuse its third 15-0 start (2-0, Big East) under head Coach Jim Boeheim.

Tim Abromaitis led Notre Dame (12-2, 1-1) with 15 points.
