COL BKB: Connecticut 66, S. Fla. 61 (OT)

HARTFORD, Conn., Dec. 31 (UPI) -- Jamal Coombs-McDaniel scored four of his six points in overtime Friday and No. 4 Connecticut dominated the extra period to down South Florida 66-61.

The Huskies escaped South Florida's upset bid by holding the Bulls scoreless in the overtime until Anthony Carter hit a 3-pointer with a single second remaining.

Regulation play ended in a 58-58 tie after South Florida's Anthony Carter hit a 3-pointer with 29 seconds to go.

Kemba Walker scored 24 points to lead the Huskies. Alex Oriakhi was the only other Connecticut player in double figures with 15.

The Huskies (11-1, 1-1 Big East) were coming off a loss to Pittsburgh Monday in their early-season conference showdown.

South Florida (6-9, 0-2) lost its fourth straight game. Augustus Gilchrist led the Bulls with 21 points.
