NHL: Phoenix 6, Los Angeles 3

GLENDALE, Ariz., Dec. 30 (UPI) -- Shane Doan led an offensive surge with two goals Wednesday that vaulted the Phoenix Coyotes to a 6-3 victory over Los Angeles.

The Coyotes had scored just one goal in each of their last four games, three of which were losses.

That drought ended, however, in a wild first period from which Phoenix emerged with a 4-3 lead. Doan and Kyle Turris scored in the second period to complete the scoring, all of which came in the game's first 30 minutes.

Scottie Upshall added a goal and two assists for the Coyotes, who have won four in a row against the Kings. Brett MacLean gave Phoenix a 4-2 lead late in the first period with a power-play goal that came in his NHL debut.

Ilya Bryzgalov got the victory with 23 saves.

Los Angeles had a four-game winning streak snapped. After giving up six goals on 18 shots, Jonathan Quick was removed from the game midway through the second period. Jonathan Bernier came on to stop all 13 shots he faced.
