COL BKB: Georgetown 86, Memphis 69

MEMPHIS, Dec. 23 (UPI) -- Austin Freeman hit 9-of-12 shots and scored 24 points Thursday in pacing No. 9 Georgetown to an impressive 86-69 road decision over 17th-ranked Memphis.

The Hoyas dominated the second half to hand the Tigers their second loss of the season.

Georgetown outshot Memphis 56 percent to 39 percent. Chris Wright contributed 19 points for the Hoyas (11-1), who have captured three straight since suffering a surprising loss to Temple Dec. 9.

Memphis (9-2) was led by Will Barton with 18 points. The other Tigers loss came Dec. 7 against Kansas.

Wesley Witherspoon made an unexpected return to the lineup for the Tigers after having undergone knee surgery two weeks ago. The school originally announced Witherspoon would be lost for five weeks. He started against Georgetown and scored three points in 19 minutes.
