Oregon's Kelly named Camp coach of year

NEW HAVEN, Conn., Dec. 21 (UPI) -- Oregon's Chip Kelly is the 2010 Walter Camp college football coach of the year, it was announced Tuesday.

Kelly received 24 of the 55 votes cast by coaches and sports information directors. Auburn Coach Gene Chizik came in second with 17 votes and Jim Harbaugh of Stanford was third with five votes.

TCU's Gary Patterson, who won last year, and Michigan State's Mark Dantonio each had three votes.

Kelly, in just his second season with the Ducks, has brought the team to a 12-0 mark and a No. 2 ranking in the polls. Oregon led the nation with 49.3 points a game and is second in total offense at 537.5 yards a game. Defensively, the Ducks allow 18.4 points per game, 14th-best in the country.

Kelly is the first Oregon coach and third from the Pac-10 to earn the honor, given out each year since 1967.

Oregon and top-rated Auburn (13-0) meet Jan. 10 in the national championship game in Glendale, Ariz.
