Donovan rules out return to Everton

LOS ANGELES, Dec. 21 (UPI) -- U.S. soccer star Landon Donovan said Tuesday he will not be returning to Britain's pro ranks with Everton this season, instead opting to rest.

The 28-year-old captain of the Los Angeles Galaxy said he won't make a repeat appearance on loan for Everton despite scoring two goals in 10 games for them last season.

"I feel it is important to continue to rest and recover this off-season as opposed to going on loan," Donovan said in a statement issued by the Galaxy. "I enjoyed my time at Everton last season and still appreciate all the support their fans have given me."

Donovan had an extremely busy and productive year. After scoring the game-winning goal against Algeria in the 2010 FIFA World Cup, he propelled the Galaxy to the MLS Western Conference championship game in November.

In all, he played more than 50 games in 2010 and is now aiming to recuperate and prepare for pre-season training beginning in January, the BBC reported.
