Marlins sign veteran reliever Choate

MIAMI, Dec. 15 (UPI) -- The Florida Marlins signed veteran relief pitcher Randy Choate to a two-year contract Wednesday, the team said.

The terms weren't released but MLB.com reported the contract is worth a total of $2.5 million.

Choate racked up a 4-3 record with a 4.23 earned run average in a career-high 85 games last season for Tampa Bay, pitching 44 2/3 innings.

Over a 10-year career with the New York Yankees, Arizona Diamondbacks and the Rays, Choate compiled a career record of 10-10 with a 4.39 ERA and five saves in 342 relief outings.
