COL BKB: Minnesota 66, Akron 58

MINNEAPOLIS, Dec. 15 (UPI) -- Trevor Mbakwe had 13 points and 13 rebounds Wednesday to key a second-half comeback and give No. 20 Minnesota a 66-58 win over Akron.

The tougher-than-expected victory came after Akron took a five-point halftime lead.

Mbakwe made 5-of-7 from the field and although the Golden Gophers shot just 41 percent, they held the Zips to 34 percent.

Akron still had a 39-38 lead with 11:40 to play but Minnesota went on a 23-7 run over the next 7 minutes. Blake Hoffarber also had 13 for Minnesota and Rodney Williams scored 12 points with 10 rebounds.

Steve McNeese produced 12 points for Akron (4-4).
