IOWA CITY, Iowa, Dec. 13 (UPI) -- Sophomore running back Jewel Hampton has left the Iowa football team as it prepares to play in the Insight Bowl, head Coach Kirk Ferentz said Monday.
A statement released by Ferentz indicated that sophomore running back Adam Robinson would be held out of the Dec. 28 game against Missouri at Tempe, Ariz.
"Jewel Hampton has decided to leave the team and plans to transfer to another school to complete his degree and finish his career," Ferentz said. "We wish him the best of success in the future."
Hampton, who ran for 463 yards and scored seven touchdowns this season for Iowa, pleaded guilty to public intoxication after a June 5 incident in which he was arrested at an Iowa City bar.
Robinson would miss the Insight Bowl after "failing to comply with team expectations and policies," Ferentz said.
"Adam will have the option to rejoin the team when classes resume in January," the statement said.
