TORONTO, Dec. 11 (UPI) -- Phil Kessel and Tomas Kaberle notched first-period goals Saturday and the Toronto Maple Leafs went on to down Montreal 3-1.
Kessel put his own rebound past Alex Auld 7:38 into the game to give the Leafs a lead they wouldn't relinquish and Kaberle's shot from the left circle off a pass from Fredrik Sjostrom 3 minutes later made it 2-0.

Kris Versteeg added an empty-netter and Jean-Sebastien Giguere turned aside 22 shots for Toronto, which snapped a two-game losing streak.
Michael Cammalleri scored for the Canadiens and Auld allowed two goals on 22 shots in the loss.
