MINNEAPOLIS, Dec. 11 (UPI) -- Ralph Sampson III scored 19 points and No. 20 Minnesota scored 15 straight points to start the second half Saturday in their 71-58 win over Eastern Kentucky.
Maverick Ahanmisi made a 3-pointer just before the buzzer to give the Golden Gophers a 28-25 halftime lead and Minnesota then went on a 15-0 run when play resumed, capped by Chip Armelin's lay-up.

Sampson grabbed eight rebounds and Blake Hoffarber and Trevor Mbakwe each contributed 14 points for the Golden Gophers (9-1), winners of three straight.
The Colonels (5-5) were led by Justin Stommes with 19 points.
