NHL: Ottawa 3, New Jersey 2

OTTAWA, Dec. 10 (UPI) -- Jarkko Ruutu scored his second goal of the season midway through the second period Friday and it became the game-winner in Ottawa's 3-2 victory over New Jersey.

Ruutu had 12 goals and 26 points last season, but this was only his sixth point of the 2010-11 campaign. It gave the Senators a two-goal lead and Ottawa held on after Dainius Zubrus brought New Jersey within a goal late in the middle period.

The result spoiled the return of New Jersey's Martin Brodeur, who has more victories and shutouts than any other goaltender in NHL history.

Brodeur had missed the last eight games with a bruised right elbow. He gave up all three goals on 29 shots. Pascal Leclaire got the victory with 29 saves, helping Ottawa win for the second time in seven games.
