NHL: Boston 5, N.Y. Islanders 2

BOSTON, Dec. 9 (UPI) -- Milan Lucic opened the scoring Thursday and added one of Boston's two empty-net goals in boosting the Bruins to a 5-2 win over the New York Islanders.

The Islanders lost their fourth straight and have won just once in their last 19 games. They have three fewer points than any other team in the NHL.

Boston has won four times in its last five outings and earned a point in the lone loss during that stretch.

Tuukka Rask made 33 saves to get the win.

Lucic scored on the power play with 6 minutes to go in the first period and Boston built a 3-1 lead midway through the third thanks to a shorthanded score from Brad Marchand and another power-play tally by Michael Ryder.

Rob Schremp brought the Islanders within one with 3:33 to play in regulation, but both Lucic and Patrice Bergeron scored into an empty net to end New York's comeback hopes. Lucic has 15 goals for the season.

Rick DiPietro stopped 35 shots for the Islanders.
