WINTER GARDEN, Fla., Dec. 6 (UPI) -- Billy Mayfair fired a 2-under 70 Monday, claiming the medalist honors at the PGA Tour Qualifying Tournament in Florida.
Mayfair, who won the 1995 Tour Championship as well as four other PGA events in his career, completed the six-round tourney at 18-under-par 411, one shot better than William McGirt (68) and Ben Martin (71) at minus-17.
Claiming sole possession of fourth place was Cameron Tringale (68) at 16-under 413, while Jarrod Lyle (68) ended in fifth place at minus-15.
The tourney, also known as Q School, allows the top 29 finishers to earn their PGA Tour cards for the 2011 season.
Well-known names who finished out of the running included Jason Gore, Will Mackenzie, Briny Baird, Ty Tryon and Lee Janzen.
