NHL: Toronto 3, Boston 2 (SO)

TORONTO, Dec. 4 (UPI) -- Paul Kessel produced the deciding goal in the third round of a shootout Saturday, bringing Toronto a 3-2 victory over Boston.

The Maple Leafs snapped a four-game losing streak, getting the best of Boston goaltender Tim Thomas. It was only the fourth loss of the season for Thomas, two of them having come in overtime.

Thomas gave up a goal to Nathan Horton in the opening 5 minutes, then appeared to have the game won as time wound down. Kris Versteeg, however, scored a power-play goal with 39 seconds left to keep the Maple Leafs alive.

Each side delivered a goal through the first two rounds of the shootout before Kessel beat Thomas. Juan-Sebastien Giguere then stopped Michael Ryder's bid to keep things going.

Boston had won two in a row. Thomas finished with 38 saves and Giguere had 25.
