MONTREAL, Dec. 4 (UPI) -- Carey Price allowed only a first-period goal and made 25 saves Saturday, pacing Montreal to a 3-1 decision over San Jose.

Price won his 16th game of the season, having started the day tied with Detroit goalie Jimmy Howard for the NHL lead in that category.

The lone goal allowed by Price was scored by Benn Ferriero with 6:56 to go in the opening period which lifted the Sharks into a 1-1 tie.

Tomas Plekanec put the Canadiens in front on a wrist shot with 6:02 to go in the second and Mike Cammalleri added an insurance tally midway through the third.

Antti Niemi took the loss, allowing the three goals on 19 shots.

There were only two penalties in the game, both minor ones against Montreal.
