NHL: N.Y. Rangers 2, N.Y. Islanders 0

NEW YORK, Dec. 3 (UPI) -- Henrik Lundqvist needed to make just 17 saves Friday in his fourth shutout of the season, a 2-0 win for the New York Rangers over the New York Islanders.

The teams met for the second time in as many nights and the Rangers won both contests. Friday's game was in sharp contrast to Thursday's meeting, in which the Rangers posted a wild 6-5 decision.

The Rangers have won six of their last eight games and the Islanders have dropped 16 of 17. The Islanders have won just five times season and their 51 goals are the second fewest in the league.

Lundqvist has 28 shutouts in his six-year career, all of it spent with the Rangers. His career best has been 10 shutouts in the 2007-08 season.

Marc Staal scored the first goal for the Rangers on the power play 4:33 into the second period. It remained a 1-0 game until Brian Boyle delivered an empty-net score with 3 seconds to play.

Dwayne Roloson took the loss, stopping 19-of-20 shots.
