OTTAWA, Dec. 2 (UPI) -- Antti Niemi made 28 saves Thursday to pick up his first shutout of the season and carry San Jose to a 4-0 win over Ottawa.
Niemi has eight shutouts in his career, the other seven having come last year with Chicago in what was his first full season in the NHL. He came into the game having given up almost four goals per contest.
Logan Couture scored twice, both goals coming in the third period after the Sharks had built a 2-0 lead through the opening two stanzas.
The game marked the return to Ottawa for Dany Heatley, who played four years with the Senators before demanding a trade to San Jose. Heatley had an assist and spent 2 minutes in the penalty box.
Pascal Leclaire took the loss, giving up four goals on 33 shots. The Senators have lost four out of five.
