NBA: Miami 97, Detroit 72

MIAMI, Dec. 1 (UPI) -- LeBron James led the way with 18 points Wednesday and the Miami Heat held Detroit to nine points in the third period on the way to a 97-72 win over the Pistons.

Miami won for the third time in four outings since losing three in a row.

The Heat built a 20-point cushion heading into the fourth period thanks to Detroit's struggles in the third. The Pistons shot only 36 percent from the field for the game and turned the ball over 16 times in their third straight loss.

James made 8-of-15 from the field and attempted only two foul shots. Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh both had 16 for the Heat.

Detroit was paced by Greg Monroe with 15 points.
