COOPERSTOWN, N.Y., Nov. 29 (UPI) -- Last year's near-misses Bert Blyleven and Roberto Alomar, 12 other holdovers and 19 newcomers were on the 2011 Baseball Hall of Fame ballot released Monday.
Blyleven and Alomar fell short of enshrinement by less than 10 votes, just missing being named on 75 percent of all ballots cast in this year's voting,
Longtime outfielder Andre Dawson was the lone Hall selection after collecting 77.9 percent of votes (420-of-539).
Blyleven, who pitched for Minnesota, Texas, Pittsburgh, Cleveland and California Angels from 1970-1992, and Alomar, an infielder for San Diego, Toronto, Baltimore, Chicago White Sox and New York Mets from 1988-2002, will try again for a spot in the Cooperstown, N.Y., shrine.
Other holdovers include Harold Baines, Barry Larkin, Edgar Martinez, Don Mattingly, Fred McGriff, Mark McGwire, Jack Morris, Dale Murphy, Dave Parker, Tim Raines, Lee Smith and Alan Trammell.
New on the ballot this year are Juan Gonzalez, Jeff Bagwell, Larry Walker, Benito Santiago, Rafael Palmeiro, Kevin Brown, John Franco, Al Leiter, Kirk Rueter, Tino Martinez, John Olerud, Carlos Baerga, Bret Boone, Bobby Higginson, Marquis Grissom, Charles Johnson and B.J. Surhoff.
