NHL: Washington 3, Carolina 2

RALEIGH, N.C., Nov. 24 (UPI) -- Brooks Laich's power-play goal snapped a tie with 7:53 remaining Wednesday, giving Washington a 3-2 win over Carolina.

Washington let a two-goal lead get away, but came up with the key goal from Laich to snap a three-game losing streak. Laich scored just 5 seconds after Jeff Skinner was sent to the box for slashing.

Nicklas Backstrom scored in each of the first two periods for the Capitals, but Sergei Samsonov and Eric Stall produced goals 4 minutes apart early in the third to tie it.

Semyon Varlamov made 30 saves to get the win. The Capitals had allowed 14 goals in their three straight losses.

Justin Peters stopped 35 shots for the Hurricanes, who have lost three in a row and five out of six.
