Oilers put goaltender on injured reserve

EDMONTON, Alberta, Nov. 18 (UPI) -- The Edmonton Oilers announced Thursday they had placed 15-year veteran goaltender Nikolai Khabibulin on injured reserve.

Khabibulin, who has played for five teams in the NHL and is in his second season with the Oilers, will be out indefinitely with a groin injury.

He has struggled this year, going 4-10-1 while giving up a league-high 56 goals.

Edmonton recalled Martin Gerber from Oklahoma City of the American Hockey League to take Khabibulin's place on the roster. Gerber, 36, played in Russia last year and has 110 NHL wins.

Khabibulin has appeared in 711 NHL games.
