SPOKANE, Wash., Nov. 17 (UPI) -- Billy White scored 30 points Tuesday to lead San Diego State to a 79-76 upset of 12th-ranked Gonzaga on the Bulldogs home court in the CBE Classic.
White had nine rebounds for the Aztecs (2-0) who handed Gonzaga (2-1) only their fifth loss in their 77 games at McCarthey Athletic Center.
Kawhi Leonard had 18 points and 12 rebounds for San Diego State. James Rahon added a dozen points.
Steven Gray scored 35 for Gonzaga, and Robert Sacre added 13.
San Diego State led most of the way. The Aztecs held a 42-37 edge at halftime and held on despite seeing their lead dwindle to one point with 24 seconds to play on Gray's layup. Leonard sank a pair of free throws with 22 seconds remaining to secure the win.
San Diego State out-rebounded Gonzaga 33-26, but they gave the Bulldogs 27 free throw attempts to their own 15.
