Steelers boot kicker Reed

PITTSBURGH, Nov. 16 (UPI) -- The Pittsburgh Steelers cut kicker Jeff Reed Tuesday for missing a third of his field-goal attempts this season and replaced him with Shaun Suisham.

Reed, who had spent all nine of his NFL seasons with Pittsburgh, hit the waiver wire after missing seven of his 22 tries, including a 26-yarder Sunday against New England.

Suisham, who worked for Dallas and Washington last year, signed a one-year contract with the Steelers.

Reed, 28, had been named a franchise player by the Steelers and signed a one-year contract in the off-season after making 27-of-31 attempts last season. He made 79.1 percent (87 of 110) of his field goal attempts in the NFL and ranks second on the Steelers' all-time list with 919 career points.

Suisham had originally signed with Pittsburgh as an undrafted rookie free agent out of Bowling Green in 2005 but never played for the team before hooking on with the Cowboys and Redskins.
