COL BKB: Memphis 72, Miami (Fla.) 68

MEMPHIS, Nov. 16 (UPI) -- Chris Crawford scored five late points that allowed No. 19-ranked Memphis to escape early Tuesday with a 72-68 victory over Miami-Florida.

Neither team was able to grab control of the game although Miami led into the late stages of the game. Crawford, whose layup with 2:26 to go tied the score, connected on a 3-point shot for Memphis that made the score 66-65 and erased the final Miami lead with about two minutes to go.

The Hurricanes tied the score with 1:42 to go, but Memphis's Charles Carmouche made two free throws. After a miss on the Miami end, Antonio Barton added a free throw for the Tigers.

Miami pulled back to within one point on a Durand Scott jumper, but free throws by Joe Jackson and Barton sealed the win.

Jackson led Memphis (2-0) with 17 points while Carmouche added 13 points and Wesley Witherspoon 12 for the Tigers. Crawford finished with eight points. Miami (1-1) got a game-high 20 points from Scott and 18 from Malcolm Grant.
